The Eden Project Winter Festival – Cornwall
Add a little sparkle to your winter with a visit to the magnificent Eden Project in Cornwall, a delight to visit any time of the year. From 23 November 2012 to Sunday 6 January 2013 this disused mining pit with be bedecked with glowing lanterns and filled with the sound of choirs singing. The Eden Project’s famous ice rink will be back again this year, so come along ready to hit the ice and show off your skills. Keswick Traditional Christmas Fayre – Lake District
Since 1988 the quaint Lake District town of Keswick has held a Christmas Fayre on the first Sunday in December, which is 2 December this year. Organized by volunteers the fayre provides stalls for local charities and other non-profit making organizations, giving these groups the chance to raise much needed funds for their causes. The Keswick Traditional Christmas Fayre is more than just a charity festival though, entertainment is provided throughout the day, there is a funfair for young children, as well as a Santa's Grotto. The town of Keswick is enchanting any time of the year, but never more than over the Christmas season when the streets are festooned with lights and, if you’re lucky, the old stone Lake District cottages are blanketed in fresh white snow. German Christmas Market – Edinburgh
If you want to be well and truly wowed by a city at Christmas, then Edinburgh is the place to go. This absolutely magical city really pulls out all the stops for the Christmas season, bedecking its cobbled streets with glittering lights and filling every nook and cranny with festive events and activities. This year’s festival, based around the grounds of Edinburgh Castle, will take place from mid-November through the New Year and hosts events and activities all the way through. What do you do at a German Christmas Market in Scotland? Drink warm, spiced Gluhwein while browsing the stalls filled with everything from wooden dolls to European pastries of course! St Nicholas Fayre – York
The four day St Nicholas Fayre in York is one of the most popular Christmas markets in all of the UK, which isn’t really a surprise given how beautiful the city is York. The St Nicholas Fayre is unlike any other Christmas fair in the country, taking advantage of the city’s ancient heritage and hosting a special medieval market in the Barley Hall, a magnificent medieval townhouse, while the grand medieval Guild Hall provides a home for ‘Made In Yorkshire' artists and crafters from across the county. Thousands of visitors flock to the Fayre every season and are treated to carol singers and buskers throughout the city, so don’t worry if you’re not a big shopper, and with this year’s Fayre coinciding with the York 800 celebrations it’s sure to be bigger and better than ever.
